All rendered cavity walls need weepholes even if the exterior surface or a lamina membrane are totally weathertight. Overseas experience where these systems were first introduced and trialled without adequate drainage and ventilation have resulted in material decay, wall failure, huge litigation and damages bills. These failures have been termed Leaky House Syndrome and we are beginning to see the same problems appearing in Australia.
Tradesmen increasingly prefer the new Weepa range of weep hole formers for their easy installation and adjustability during application of the render.
The Weepa is installed by the bricklayer creating formwork for the solid plasterer. After completion the mortar protector is removed to expose the patented, hinged, ember or vermin guard.
